A Catalogue of the Wild Relatives of Cultivated Plants Native to Europe
Topography, geology and l10ra of Mt Timfristos are discussed. The vascular l10ra consists of 1139 taxa, 411 of which are reported here for the first time. The endemie element is, in particular, analysed. 111 Balkan endemics (25 are new records) and 89 Greek endemics (11 are al so new reeords) are present on Mt Timfristos, two of the Greek endemics are so far known only from Timfristos. 14 taxa are charactcrized as Rare and I taxon as Vulnerabl e. A species list is provided wi th notes on localities and voucher materia!.
Salix oropotamica, occurring along the mountain streams of Aspromonte (S. Italy), is described and illustrated as a species new to science. Its relationships with S. caprea are discussed too
Crepis aspromonrana, growing on rocky places along the Ionian slope of Aspromonte (S. Italy), is described and illustrated as species new to science. Its morphology, ecology and relationships with Crepis vesicaria are examined.
The finding of Arenaria ciliata L. in Rila mountain (Bulgaria) is first time reported. The morphological peculiarities of rare species for the Bulgarian flora are discussed. New locality and data on habitat are presented.
Acaulon fontiquerianum Casas & Sérgio, recently described from Spain, is recorded for the first ti me from ltaly in a locality of the Caltanissetta province. Besides the description of the morphological features of Acaulon fontiquerianum , the spores of specimens collected in Sicily are illustrated using SEM. Finally ecological and chorological remarks of the species are provided.
This check-list of liverworts (Marchantiophyta) and hOll1worts (Anthocertohyta) of Italy (including Sardinia and Sicily) comprises 279 species, 5 subspecies and 12 varieties representing 81 genera and 40 families; it also inc1udes a list or excluded or doubtful taxa and a list of names or uncertain attribution. The main list inc ludes tabular distributional data, by region , based partly on literature records and mostly on herbarium material, especially for rare and doubtful spec ies; it differentiates between reports based on pre-1950 collections and those based on more recentl y published information when useful. CriticaI note s on distributional and taxonomi cal problems are added.
A biometric study of the Hippocrepis balearica aggregate from Balearic Island and Alicante (eastern Iberic Peninsula) was carried out. Fiftyeight samples were used in a statistical treatment (principal component analysis and clusterisation) based on 26 variables. The results support the recognition of two species, H. balearica and H. grosii comb. nova. Two subspecies within H. balearica are included, H. balearica subsp. balearica and H. balearica subsp. valentina. Factors in evolutionary trends are suggested.
7 fossil taxa of Neogene sediments from the Satovcha Graben in the Western Rhodopes (Southwest Bulgaria), belonging to family Theaceae have been analyzed. 4 new species have been established. Genus Adinandra has been established for the first time for European Tertiary flora.
Sixty-seven lichens and allied taxa are reported from olive trees (Olea europaea) and soil in olive groves on the island of Corfu, Greece. One species, Mycocalicium albonigrum (Nyl.) Tibell, is new lO Europe and five species are new to Greece, viz.: Arthonia impolita (Ehrh.) Borr., Lecanora rubicunda Bagl., Opegrapha niveoatra (Borr.) Laundon, Physcia biziana (MassaI.) Zahlbr., and P. clementei (SOl.) Maas Geest. Twenly-lhree laxa are new lo Corfu. The epiphylic lichens of lhe olive lrees are grouped according lO habitat preferences and are briefly discussed in relation IO published lichen communilies. The chorology of Ihe tlora is likewise briefly louched.
Colchicum species of Turkey have importance for pharmaceutical purpose and certain species, particularly the big flowered autumnal ones are known horticulturally. The aim of this work is to present the main threats and morphological descriptions including their illustrations of three endangered Colchicum species namely C. chalcedonicum Azn., C. micranthum Boiss. and C. furcicum Janka.
Three new species or Labiatae are described and illustrated from Turkey: Sideritis akmanii Z. Aytaç , M. Ekici & A. Donmez, Sideritis gulendamii H. Duman & F. A. Karaveliogullari, Origanum husnucan-baserii H. Duman, Z. Aitaç & A. Duran.
The situation of the hemerophytic flora of Friuli-Venezia Giulia in its adventitious, autapophytic and deuterapophytic components is here considered. For each of these the family composition, life and growth form spectrum, chorological spectrum, and subdivision into phytosociological classes are studied. The actual situation is compared to that before 1945 and the main reasons of the changes occurred in the emerophytic flora are discussed. A "diffusion index " , expressing the capability of an adventitious spec ies to spread within a territory is suggested. Fina\ly the up-to-date list of the adventitious species found in the region after 1945 is provided.
266 plants ha ve been collected in twenty-three localities of Central-Northem Tunisia. Some of them (Centaurium erythraea subsp. rhodense, Cuscuta palaestina, Launaea fragilis, Pennisetum setaceurn subsp. orientale, Scleranthus annuus, Scrophularia balbisii subsp. balbisii, Teucriurn polium subsp. :aurasianum:, :T. polium_ subsp. cylindraceurn) are new to the flora of this Country.
