This check-list of liverworts (Marchantiophyta) and hOll1worts (Anthocertohyta) of Italy (including Sardinia and Sicily) comprises 279 species, 5 subspecies and 12 varieties representing 81 genera and 40 families; it also inc1udes a list or excluded or doubtful taxa and a list of names or uncertain attribution. The main list inc ludes tabular distributional data, by region , based partly on literature records and mostly on herbarium material, especially for rare and doubtful spec ies; it differentiates between reports based on pre-1950 collections and those based on more recentl y published information when useful.
