This new check-list of the mosses of Italy in its political boundaries is composed of 851 species representing 210 genera and 55 families. The main species list includes tabular distributional data by regions, based on literature reports and herbarium records. The reports of specics presence based on pre-1950 collections are distinguished from those based on more recent confirmations. In addition, 3 lists concerning the new reported taxa, the excluded taxa and the known synonyms are presented.
