The Valencia County Regional Administration (Spain) is developing a flora conservation programme which includes bryophytes, with the financial support of the European Union (Life Programme). Revised IUCN Red List catezories have been applied following the guidelincs proposed by Hallinbick & al (1998) and Girdenfors (1996). This Red Data List includes 50 taxa, 32 mosses and 18 liverworts. Threatened categories for Iberian Peninsula and Europe according to others authors and some annotations for each taxon are given. Moreover, two additional lists of those taxa evaluated as Lower Risk near threatened (LRnt) and Data Deficient (DD) are added. The most important species of this Red Data List are Riella helicophylla, R. cossoniana and R. notarisii since the Valencian populations constitute 2 high percentage of the European populations. Other species like Pottia pallida, Pterygoneurum lamellatum and P. subsesile, reported as vulnerable by other authors, are now in a new unthreatened status: Lower Risk, near threatened (LRnt).

This new check-list of the mosses of Italy in its political boundaries is composed of 851 species representing 210 genera and 55 families. The main species list includes tabular distributional data by regions, based on literature reports and herbarium records. The reports of specics presence based on pre-1950 collections are distinguished from those based on more recent confirmations. In addition, 3 lists concerning the new reported taxa, the excluded taxa and the known synonyms are presented.

Vol. 11 | pp. 115-294

This work reports an up-to-date list of all the species of macrofungi known in Liguria: they amount to 1521 (1385 Basidiomycota and 136 Ascomycota). Details about distribution and ecology are given for cach species. A brief statistical discussion on the collected data is also provided. Although, this check list has been compiled by exploiting information recorded through the last thirty years, the acquaintance with the Ligurian macrofungi flora is far from being exhaustive because a large part of the regional territory is still unexplored from a mycological point of view. Therefore, this work represents a starting point for further studies aimed at carrying out both a ‘more complete picture of the Ligurian mycological flora and the drafting of a national check-list.

Forty-three lichen 1ava from Morocco are discussed. At least, five of them are new reports t0 both Rif and Central Atlas; three are new to NW Central Region, five to Gran Atlas and six to Anti Atlas; seventeen are new reports to the all country. Notes on the distribution and the ecol- ogy of the species are given, paying attention (0 their behaviour in the Mediterranean area.

Three species belonging to the genus Isoées with terrestrial habitat occur in Calabria: I. duriei Bory (2n = 55), L. histrix Bory (2n = 20), I._ subinermis_ (Durieu) Cesca & Peruzzi stat. nov. (2n = 22). Karyological and morphological data are presented and discussed. Both /. duriei (pentaploid) and I._ histrix_ (ancuploid) are probably derived from I. subinermis (diploid): the first because of autopoliploidy, the latter because of aneuploidy. I. subinermis is a neglected taxon, described in 1861, that acquires new taxonomic meaning under the data presented in this paper.

An inventory of 473 vascular taxa new to Mount Erimanthos (NW Peloponnisos, Greece) is presented, based on recent field work. Indication of life-form, chorological data and notes on species habitats is provided. 17 taxa are Balkan endemics. 31 taxa are Greek endemics, 5 of which are restricted to Peloponnisos. 9 taxa are new to Peloponnisos and 7 are characterized as Rare or Vulnerable.

The native flora of Ceylanpinar State Farm was studied. During floristic surveys, 395 species of 216 gencra belonging to 51 families were recorded. 102 taxa are new records to C7 square. The endemic taxa are 12. Furthermore, Mericarpaca ciliata (Banks & Sol.) Eig (Rubiaceae). new to the Flora of Turkey, has been recorded

A new species to science Festuca michaelis is proposed and described. This taxon occurs in the Iberolevantino woods of Quercus faginea Lam., under a supramediterranean bioclimate. This taxon is also compared 10 the close species Festuca gracilior (Hackel) Markgraf-Dannenberg and Festuca valentina (St-Yves) Markgraf-Dannenberg, both said to be found in the oriental quadrant of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain).

Zannichellia melitensis, a new species from the Maltese Archipelago is described and illustrated. It occurs in the smail pools of the calcareous plateaux, where it grows together with other hydrophytes. Its relationships with the other known species of the genus Zannichellia are also examined.

In this contribution the authors present the results of a floristic research involving a few calcarcous formations of centre-castern Sardinia in Barbagia di Seulo: Monte Tonneri and Monte Arqueri. The found floristic component is made up of 508 entities subdivided into 76 familics and 305 genera. The endemic contingent is represented by 62 species. 12.20% of the entire flora. The analysis ofthe growth forms has shown a high percentage of herbaccous speics:the spectrum has shown the dominance of Mediterranean elements. The largest per- centage of the endemic component refers exclusively to the Sardinian sector.

Lignite samples from the mines of Montebamboli and Ribolla (southern Tuscany) are chemical- ly investigated to assess whether they are made up of the fossil species Taxodioxylon gypsaceum, the same morphotaxon of the famous and monospecific Pliocene forest of Dunarobba (Umbria, central ltaly). All the samples contain aromatic hydrocarbons as well as linear and branched alka- nes. In addition. Montebamboli contains traces of cadalene and -phyllocladane while Ribolla contains sesquiterpenes, diterpencs, and de-A-lupane. The presence of aromatic hydrocarbons and alkanes contrasts with the composition of materials of Dunarobba and Santa Barbara (Arno valley) as they contain, almost exclusively. terpenes. The residual terpenes of Montebamboli can only point t0 a generic conifer species while those of Ribolla suggest a blend of conifers and angiosperms since its terpencs do not agree in number and proportion with those of Dunarobba and Santa Barbara. Owing to the great degradation of the materials, shown by pyrolysis gas chro- matography mass spectrometry analysis, cation exchange capacity values and indirect palacob- otany. the original plant material of the two lignites cannot be defined monospecific
