_Limonium optimae, a new species localized on the borders of a salty stream and along the limitrophe evaporitic limestone substrata in a very restricted area of the Sicilian inland, is described.
The results of more than five decades of karyological studies on Bulgarian flowering plants are recorded and summarized as an introduction to a chromosome atlas of the Bulgarian flora. Comments on the incidence of polyploidy and endemisme in the flora of Bulgaria are included.
Thirteen species of Pannariaceae are enumerated for Calabria, South Italy. Regional distribution maps and data on habitat are presented. Difference in local distribution patterns of the species are discussed on the basis of environmental data.
Chromosome numbers are reported for 38 Moroccan Compositae. Seven reported taxa have not previously been investigated cytologically or have chromosome numbers differing from previous reports. Counts for nine additional taxa are the first reports for Morocco or North Africa.
125 taxa of vascular plants are reported as new to the island of Samos, Greecl;, After this addition, the total number of taxa known from the island ~ about 1235, but there may still be or a few hundred more to be found.
Within Aristolochia, the population cluster from S Anatolia (Turkey) morphologically characterized by a ± straight perianth tube and an expanded twoauricled limb has' long been referred to one species, A. auricularia, from which a second one, A. rechingeriana, has been separated recently. Study of herbarium material has led to the recognition of four closely related species, here described and illustrated, the former two and two new ones: A. geniculata and A. isaurica.
The morphological variation of two Dematiaceous Hyphomycetes, Endophragmiella boewei (Crane) Hughes and Beltrania rhombica Penzig, isolated from litter of Mediterranean vegetation is investigated. The strains were inoculated on sterilized leaf litter of the different species of the mediterranean vegetation to investigate the variation of their morphological characters. The data show a certain degree of stability for E. boewei and great variation for B. rhombica.
The second part of the results of a f1 0ristic investigation of Cyprus is presented, including 152 species and subspecies. Othantus maritimus subsp. atlanticus is described as new. Two species new for Cyprus, Anaf:Anagallis latifolia and Garhadiolus anglosus , are reported.
The occurrence of a Cyrtomium falcatum population naturalized in the southem Po Valley (Emilia-Romagna region, Italy), is reported. This is the first record of the species for Italy, since all previous Italian findings of Cyrtomium belong to C. fortunei.
Campanula reatina, a new species restricted to some cliffs in the Sabina area (Lazio, centrai Italy)
Campanula reatina, a new species of the "garganica" group, is described and illustrated. Quite distinct characters makes it unique relatively to other species in the group. Ecological and systematic comments are discussed.
Centaurea cithaeronea, a yellow-fIowered species from MI. Kitheron on the Attiki-Viotia border in Centrai Greece is described; its somatic chromosome number is 2n = 54.
A new, annual species belonging to the Saponaria calabrica group, is described. Il can be recognized by its dwarf, succulent habit and also by seed characters, and has a peculiar ecology, being found very locally on sandy beaches of a small offshore island and the opposite mainland.
New finds of Centranthus macrosiphon, naturalized on the island of Salamis, are reported. Notes on older collections and remarks on the ecology, distribution and spread are presented.
Two populations of Salvia willeana and seven of Salvia fruticosa were examined with respect to the morpho-anatomical and histochemical features of their root, stem, leaf, f1ower, glandular and aglandular hairs. No remarkable differences between the two species, either in the anatomy or in the structure and distribution of their different trichome types, were noted.
Genista demarcai found on ca1careous cliffs near Isnello (N. Sicily), is described and illustrated. This new species is a rare chasmophyte belonging to the G. ephedroides group. Its relationships wit_h G. gasparrinii_, G. tyrrhena and G. ephedroides are discussed.
AIlium platakisii, a rare species of the Greek flora occurring on the islet of Pondikonisi (NW of Crete), is described as new to science. The morphology and the karyotype ofthe new species are illustrated, and its relationships are discussed.
Scorzonera serrulata Viv. is a distinct species, endemic to N Cyrenaica, closely related to S. neapolitana Grande, eonfined to S. Italy. The taxonomy and nomenclature are diseussed.
A. pilatianus (Bohus) Bohus, previously known in lta1y in Emilia, Apulia and Sardinia, is recorded for the first ti me for Sicily. Brief notes on tbe cborology and ecology of the collected specimens are provided.
