A list of 32 li chens new to AblUzzi is reported. The list was made by comparing the identificati ons of the specimens present in the herbarium kept at the Ecological Service of the Provincial Administration of Pescara with the Itali an li chen check-Iist proposed by Ni mis (1993). For each species both geographical and ecological data are included.

The key to Moroccan species of the genus Onopordum is given. The gaps in the geographical distribution of some species can be explained by climatic constraints. Winmaroc, a database for Moroccan fiora, allows to draw distributions (zoom included) and climatograms (in 2 or 3 dimensions) of each species.

Diploid chromosome numbers (2n ~ 36), reported for Romanian populations of C. banaticum subsp. banaticum, are the first evidence for diploids within this polyploid complex wi th 2x-, 4x-, 7x-, and 8x-cytotypes. The designated lectotype for the name C. grandiflorum var. banalicum (= c. banaticum) has its origin in approximate ly the same area in Romania. The Cerastium banaticum group, centred in the mountains of Italy and the Balkans, is characterised as a disjunct and evidently old assembly of taxa exhibiting morphological affinities to the C. tomentosum and C. arvense_ group.

A new fossil wood from a lignite quarry in the Amo basin was examined for its terpene contenI. It was characterised by the lack of smell on comparison with two previous samplcs. Analysis has shown several components of diterpenes (abietanc, abietatriene, a-phyllocladanc and simonellite) and only traces of sesquiterpenes in common with thc previous samples. Comparison of ali analysed samples with others from thc fossil forest of Dunarobba shows the occurrence of many shared components especially diterpenes. It is conc!udcd that Taxodioxylon gypsaceum, the first species described from Dunarobba's forest, is probably the species which has given rise to the lignite of the Arno basino

Results of floristic studies at Capo S. Marco, thc southem extremity of the wide Sinis peninsula, are presented. The flora is composed of 400 spontaneous taxa belonging to 63 families and 242 genera and includes species of noteable phytogcographic significancc which have the locus classicus here. The floristic list of CapoS. Marco has been analysed in order to elaborate the life forms, to check the different growth forms of the plants in response to environmcntal factors, to record the phytogeographic elements of alI species so as to show the various geographic components. Ecologic elements for about 50% of the flora characterizing the landscape of Capo S. Marco are considered.

The saprotrophic mycoflora from the leaf litter of five plant species col1ccted at a heavy metal pol1uted site and at a control site, is compared. The composition of the fungal community recorded in tbe soil col1ected at the pol1uted site is reported. Data show a large presence of the genus Penicillium, with the prevailing species P. roscopurpurcum and P. westlingii. On Pistacia lentiscus leaves, collected at the polluted site, a massive presence of Circinotrichum maculiforme has been recorded, suggesting that it could be adapted to grow at high meta l concentratioI1s.

The flora of Monte Arcosu has been studied and 520 taxa have been found. Among these taxa, 492 are species and 28 subspecies belonging to 303 genera and 90 families. The rich variety of plant life in the Monte Arcosu area in comparison with other studied areas of Su1cis is pointed oul. Analysis of the biological spectrum showed that therophytes make up 44% of the total, confirming the full Medi terranean nature of the area. A comparison with the biological spectra of other floras shows similar values, except for the therophytes which seem considerably ]ower, and confirms the prevalence of wood and shmb formations. The chorological spectrum shows dominance of Mediterranean elements (75%), with significant presence of the southwestern Mediterranean component (16%). The number of endemic plants was found to be 9% with dominance of Sardinian-Corsican elements (37%).

Micromorphological characters of the nutlet surface has been analysed in 13 species of Salvia belonging to the subgenera Salvia, Sclarea (Moench.) Benth., Calosphace Benth., Leonia (Llav. & !...ex.) The difficulties in the subdivision of infrageneric taxa in Iris L. have created great taxonomic problems even at the level of nomenclatural and taxonomic synonymies. The eases of I. suaveolens (N.
